Christhurch Community House is home to 23 voluntary agencies working together to build communities. All the groups listed are here to help you.
Some offices are staffed 8:30am to 5:00pm but many are not present all the time. It is a good idea to phone the group first to check their opening hours. Reception may also be able to help you and can put your phone call through to the group you want. If you are not sure phone 365 3139.

AGender New Zealand Inc.
Agender provide resources, support, education and advocacy services for transgender people, their partners, families and friends. The Rainbow Room in the Christchurch Community House provides a safe inner city contact point for all in the Rainbow Community of GLBT people. All seeking information, advice or help with gender or sexual identity questions are welcome. Web www.agender.org.nz.

Christchurch Budget Service (Inc)
We are a free, volunteer organization committed to a policy of confidentiality with our clients. We deal with debt, advise clients who approach the Service for help on a one to one basis. Assisting people to become independent and manage their own monies, with on going support where required. We help clients to contact their creditors and re-arrange payments to reduce the burden of debt.

Christchurch Citizens Advice Bureau provides free to all individuals an impartial and confidential service of information, guidance and support. We can help with:
  • Personal and family concerns
  • Consumer problems
  • Employment issues etc
  • Local and general information

  • Christchurch Citizens Advice Bureau provides free legal advice services Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 1.00pm-2.00pm. This service operates on a first in first served basis, therefore we suggest you arrive about 12.45pm. When you arrive please advise Reception you are here to see the lawyer and they will give you a number and the lawyer will call people in number order.

    MSSA is a support group for male victims of child sexual abuse.
    The purpose of the trust is to empower male survivors of sexual abuse in their recovery process and to work towards changing the way the community views sexual abuse, the effects, the victims and the perpetrators.

    MensTrust
    MensTrust is a non-profit charitable Trust working to build a community where men are accepted, supported, and encouraged to create positive change in their lives. MensTrust assists men to move beyond their stereotypes and discover their own uniqueness.
    What can MensTrust do for you?
    1. Provide personal development programmes (weekend and longer workshops and retreats).
    2. Promote and support men's groups.
    3. Provide networks of communication via the newsletter, email, this website, community notice board.
    4. Facilitate community education for men's awareness.
    5. Provide resources that encourage trust, courage and integrity as men.

    Network Waitangi Otautahi
    Network Waitangi Otautahi aims to provide a network for groups and individuals who are working for a society based on Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

    We are a nation-wide group of families supporting other families with an intellectually disabled member. We have a large database of contacts and information to share.     Restorative Justice Services
    Restorative Justice Services works at promoting reconciliation and healing for people harmed by crime, for offenders and the wider community. Unlike the conventional justice system, restorative justice provides an opportunity for victims to meet with offenders in a safe environment, to ask questions, gain information and describe to offenders the impact of their actions.

    We are a coordination organization working to ensure there is a co-operative approach to crime prevention and community safety between government agencies, the Christchurch City Council and the community. We have representatives from the Christchurch City Council, Police, Iwi, Community Probation, New Zealand Children, Youth and Family Service, and community groups.

    Te Runaka Ki Otautahi O Kai Tahu
    We are the local tribal council for Christchurch city. Te Runaka was established in 1936 to promote the cultural, spiritual and social well-being of Maori living in the Christchurch and Canterbury region. Over time this has evolved but the primary purpose remains the same. The Runaka initiates projects and programmes that have positive outcomes for Maori, and benefit the wider community.
    Our kaumatua are the driving force behind our organization. And are widely involved at the decision-making, advisory and participatory levels in all our activities. Projects run in the past include learning Wanaka and forums, Tikaka Maori counselling and whanau development such as language, culture, spirituality, sport and recreation.

    Works to promote open and rational debate on issues of crime, punishment, rehabilitation and alternatives to prison in New Zealand. They provide support, information, educational material and advocacy service.

    Is a networking agency for mature job seekers providing access to a job board, training information, and mentoring and one-to-one support. Another focus is advocacy on issues concerning its members. CVs and cover letters produced for a small fee.

    Otautahi Women's Refuge (Collection Depot Only)
    Community House acts as a collection point for donations of clothing, etc. Emergency accommodation for women who have been abused. For more information please ring 352 6817.

    CST provides efficient services to community groups including system design, financial structures, MYOB and publishing.

    The Polish Association in Christchurch Inc (Resource Library & Mail Service)
    They have set up a library for their members to access under the spiral staircase and hope to hold regular meetings in the House.
    The Polish Association in Christchurch’s aims and objectives are:

  • To unite all people of Polish decent living in Christchurch through joint activities
  • To assist newly arrived Poles in assimilation to life in New Zealand
  • To promote New Zealand – Polish friendships

  • A pigeon hole has been set up for them at reception. Their secretary Alina Suchanski will welcome any inquires from tenants or members of the public.
